A laugh and a tear

Evening concert | Castle Duivenvoorde 20:15

Joseph Haydn was a notorious prankster, who was known for his practical jokes. His second string quartet 'The Joke'  from the groundbreaking opus 33 quartet collection is thus the work of a spirited humourist.

We hear that life is not always a bed of roses in the "Quartetto Serioso ' of Beethoven. This dark mood is laughingly brushed aside with Brittens Three Short Divertimenti. Mozart's famous Clarinet Quintet illuminates the entire spectrum of the human mind, but Mozart's subtle humor prevails!

Haydn - String Quartet in E flat, op. 33 no. 2 The Joke
Beethoven - String Quartet in F, op. 95 no. 11 Quartetto Serioso

Britten - 3 Divertimenti for string: 'March' Waltz 'Burlesque'
Mozart - Clarinet Quintet in A, K. 581
